A DISHONEST FIRM.
A CONTRACT CANCELLED. EMPLOYEES DEFRAUDED OF WAG aS. Received March 9, 11.53 p.m. LONDON. March 9. In the House uf Commons, the Right Hon. L. Harcourt (First Commissioner of Works), replying to Mr J. WarJ, Labour M.P., announced the cancellation of a big carting con - tract because the firm had not paid the wages specified in the contract, and had bribed two Government employees in the Parks. Part of the money forfeited would be distributed among employees who had been do- | frauded out of their wages. ! The statement was received with cheers.
STEEL WORKS IN JAPAN.
TO BE PURCHASED BY GO- | VERNMENT. Received March 9, 9.20 p.m. LONDON, Ma-ch 9. The Armstrong, Whitworth Company, Newcastle,and Vickers, Son and Maxim (Barrow), have almost completed in Japan the erection of steel works for gun forging. The Japanese Government intend purchasing the works. The Japanese Admiralty will manage them, assisted by English experts. Japan ordered from Armstrong, Whitworth aid Co. a large number of eun mountings.
