TURF NOTES.

(By "Zetland.") Horses doing good work at Tauherenikau are Kelso, Warlock, Silken Rein, Golden Rein, Purakau, Humpty Dumpty, Waiwareware, Axite, Clem, Swallow, and Happy New Year. Passive has been eased in her work lately, but may be got ready to race at Easter. The latest addition to H. Fletcher's team at Tauherenikau is a chestnut gelding by Saracen—Lord Mandeville mare. He is low in condition at present, and will not be ready for racing for a considerable time. T. Ross has the San Fran gelding, Hilarian, in nice trim. He may make his first public appearance at the Masterton or Wairarapa meetings next month. Several Wairarapa horses are to be taken over to the Nelson meeting. The dates of the fixture are the same as those for the Masterton meeting, otherwise a larger number of entries would be sent from this district. The work of altering the Tauherenikau course is now well advanced. When finished there will be a fine sweep into the straight, and some very fast times will then be recorded. T. Ross has put the Kilfiheran — Prelude cole into siow work. The juvenile is moving nicely on the tracks, and if he progresses satisfactorily will be raced in November next in classic events. At Opaki, yesterday morning, gocd serviceable work was allotted to Merrie Rose, Lucretius, Rose Herald,

Over Rate, Remission, Skye, Gaelic, Retinue, Golden Butterfly, Forest Queen, Campaign, Thera, SaracenPrincess Agnes filly, Moloch, SunJ bonnet, Sealer, Osiris and Tumut. Kiltie Lass and Afterthought were associated in a four furlongs sprint, the first-named having the best of the finish. By running second in the Wanganui Cup, Blue Ribbon put up a fine performance, inasmuch as she g-'ve the winner, Kilmarnock, ten pounds in weight, and beat a really good field. W. Garrett has succeeded in keeping the Bluejacket marj in excellent condition.
