PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter)
Wednesday. A fanner of this district informed me that he recently took a trip from Pahiatua to Eketahuna, via Kaitawa, lane, and Rongomai, returning by the main road, and that although it was only three years since he traversed this route, he was surprised at the rf.pid progress the districts had made. The fires of last summer had e.lmost entirely cleared the timber on many holdings, and new buildings and other improvements of a substantial nature were much in evidence. The most noticeable improvement was the larger area of land cleared and sown down in rape. There must be several hundreds of acres of rape in crop. This shows the energy of our settlers, as only a few years ago, this land was a dense forest. One of the finest crops of rape I havo .seen in this district this season is on Mr Thos. Quirk s IConini property.
