CATHOLIC PICNIC.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The annual C&tholic, picnic for the Masterton and Bush parishes was held yesterday in the Newman Domain. Over 400 people arrived by train from Woodville and Masterton, and intermediate stations. The Railway Department stopped the trains opposite the grounds for the convenience of the travellers. There was also a large number from Eketahuna and surrounding; districts, making a 'total of about 800. The picnic was a decided success. The Rev.. Dean McKenna, ably assisted by Father Tom McKenna, deserve great credit for the excellent arrangements, and their efforts to make the function a success. The children's races resulted as follows : Running.—Boys under 8 years.— Calvin 1, Small 2. Boys under 10 years, Welch 1, Dobbin 2, Cronin 3. Boys under 12 years. —Champion 1, Welch 2, Thomas 3. Boys under 14 years.—Grey 1, O'Rooke 2, Mulcahy 3. School Boys' Race. —Galvin 1, Mulcahy 2, Galvin and Russo tie 3. Gir.ls.under 8 year;-.—Miss M. Mullen 1, Miss Corhett 2. Miss Gormen 3. Girls under 10 year?.-- Miss Sutherland 1, Miss D. Muruhv 2, Miss Galviin 3. Girl? under 12 veari — Mi.is O'Dowd 1, Miss Dobbin 2, Miss Kyati Girls under .14 years. — Miss Dobbin 1, Miss McKenna 2, Miss Turnor 3. Swiiminiino-. — Seventy-live Sards' Race, boys under 12 years of sige. — Seymour 1, McKenna 2. A great finish. Dean McKenna gave a special prize .for these two to swim again, Seymour again winning by a head. Boys' Race {over 12 years of age).— yViJliams 1. Seymour 2, Cbnnfll 3.
