NOTES. D'Nil followed up his success at Feilding by winning the Highden Hack Hurdles from the much improved Commander. Alex. Hall has the winner in fine form just now, and there is no reason why the Crackshot gelding should not go on racing. The Maiden Plate fell to that fashionably-bred filly Perolina, who is by the King's stallion Persimmon. The filly was imported from England by the late Mr G. G. Stead, and was purchased at the dispersal sale in August last for Mr Highden, of Palmerston. With ordinary luck Perolina should develop into one of our best performers. Courier, who ran second in the Maiden is by the New Zealand champion. Advance, and will do better before the season has much further advanced. The Manawatu Stakes brought out only six contestants, consequently the number of starters for the 500 sovs stakes was disappointing. Those that faced the starter were Gold Greet, winner of the Feilding Stakes

last month; Penates, the Winter Cup winner; Rangipapa, winner of sprint events at the the recent; Feilding and Woodville meetings; Full Rate, Kiltie Lass and Boanerges. Gold Crest, capably ridden by C. Jenkins, scored in a good race? from Full Rate. The winner is such a fine weight-carrier, and is so fast out of the barrier, that he takes a lot of beating, and in running second the performance of Full Rate was meritorious. In a small field Aorangi won the Tiritea Hurdles from Gold Dust. The latter showed very poor form in the spring, hut is now returning to form. Mr G. P. Donnelly's brilliant mare Gold Thread accounted for the Awapuni Handicap, while Mon Ami filled second position. The Gold Reef mare carried top weight, and beat several brilliant performers. The Terrace Hack Welter was won by the Mastcrton-trained Blue Ribbon. The Blue-jacket mare had been doing excellent work at Opaki recently, consequently was well supported by local sportsmen. W. Garratt has succeeded in getting his charge very well. Blue Ribbon will be a starter in the Manawatu Cup on Saturday. Probability and Gold Treasure filled} first and second places in the Himitangi Welter, and both promise to race well during the meeting. By winning the Summer Handicap, Crueinella emphasised the correctness of her running at the Wellington meeting, where many contended she should have beaten Sir Frisco. Gleneulloch, who has been showing indifferent form for some time, lacsdi more gamely than usual, and filled second place.
