FATAL ACCIDENT.
WELL-KNOWN CYCLIST KILLED

Jones, the well-known Christchurch cyclist, was* practising to-day on a track here with his motor cycle in view of the coming contest on Christmas Day, when he met with a fatal accident. Jones had gone round several times with other cyclists, and was slowing down to enable the others to come up, when suddenly the'tyre came off' Jones' front wheel, and'he lost all control of the machine, which, buunded forward and ran ! up the track and crashed into the-paling; fence, which guards the track, on' the outward side. Jones was thrown forward 1 over the machine, and his head struck- a> sharp paling and death was- almost instantaneous. The accident was not due tothe condition of the track, but to unforeseen circumstances. Jones was thirty years of age,, and leaves a widow and children.
