"THE ACADEMY."
MESSRS M'LEOD AND YOUNG'S CHRISTMAS STOCK.
The well-known Masterton firm of McLeod and Young, booksellers, stationer*, fancy goods and toy importers, are recognised as one of the most up-to-date firms in their class of business in New Zealand. Their fine premises in Queen Street—"The Academy"—are always found to be stocked with the latest and best quality goods, marked at the most reasonable prices. For the Christmas season of 1908, however, they have opened .an exceptionally large and valuable consignment of seasonable novelties, far exceeding the firm's Christmas importations of previous years. The shop is now a veritable storehouse of articles su:taol3 for Christmas presents, and patrcru who are in doubt -as to what to choose in the way of the customary and thoughtful "Christmas Box" need not remain in a state of hesitation any longer. There are, at "The Academy," in the book line (always an acceptable form of Christmas present) dainty little editions of standard works, which, include many of the well-known classic authors. The bindings are in keeping with the quality of the literature, and how these invaluable little works can be turned out at such a reasonable price is what is surprising to all who inspect them. There are books for boys, books for girls, for children, for adults, in fact for every age and stage of life. In leather goods the firm has established a wide reputation, their window display of this line being a remarkable one, and a credit to the proprietors. In ladies' handbags, for instance, there are over 100 varieties in this particular line to select from, which are all in the latest shades of leather and most fahionable shapes. Dressing cases, and manicure sets are typical Christmas presents, and these are also found in endless variety. In greeting cards there is the oldfashioned and ths new, and a very large selection of them, which will make it an easy matter for patrons to make a choice. The fancy goods dapartment will furnish customers with a rare variety of beautiful and dainty articles. The toy department is a fair bonanza for children, and "Santa Glaus" has evidently left a bountiful supply from his store in "The Academy," and. which is already receiving marked attention from patrons. This department is replete with every imaginable kind of toy, the range of dolls being a special feature of the display.
