A STABBING AFFAIR.
VICTIM IN SERIOUS CONDITION,

George M'Guirk, about 30-j|ears of age, formerly an inmate of a ment&l •hospital, was arrested la-=c nignt on a charge of attempted murder of his bro l .her-in-law,George Berrett, a resident of Devonport.' ' M'GuirK, having been refused entrance to Berrett's house, attempted to break down the back door. Berrett stepped outside and threatened M'Guirk with the police, and the latter turned to leave the premises. 'Suddenly, it is alleged, he seized ■what appeared to be a knife, and stabbed Berrett in the neck. The wound missed the main artery, but ■went through the muscles of the neck to the vertebrae.
Bezxatt, after being attended by a doctor, was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious, but it is not supposed the result will prove fatal.
