LONDON MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 12th December, 1908: There has been no alteration in the mutton market since last week. The Jamb market is weak, and there is a dall sale for all brands. Australian stock is accumulating, and is quoted at 4|d per lb. There is no change in the prices of New Zealand lamb. Supplies of American chilled beef are small, and prices have declined. .New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 3Jd, and forequarters at 3£d per lb. The butter market is firm, with improved demand. The following are the current 1 quotations:—Choicest New Zealand, Ills; Australian, 107s; Danish, 116s; Argentine, of which supnlies are increasing, 106s per ~ewt. The cheese market is quiet, but steady. The Turukina shipment arrived in good condition, th? result of raising the temperature of the cold storage from 45-50 to 55-60 degrees being very satisfactory, the cheese being well matured and ready for sale. Mew Zealand makes are quoted at 58s, Canadian at 61s per cwt. The hemp market is very quiet, current quotations being as follows: — Good fair grade on spot, £25; fair grade en "spot, £23; fair current Manila on spot, £24 10s; January to March shipments: Good fair grade, £24 10s; fair grade, £22 10s. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 28,000 bales.
