CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent). CARTERTON, Tuesday. The annual concert of St. Mark's Sunday School was held on Monday evening, the Rev. R. Fairbrdther presiding. An excellent programme of vocal and instrumental items was provided. There was a good audience, and the prize fund of the School will be benefited to the extent cf 24 guineas as a result. There was a large attendance at the half-yearly summoned meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids. Bro. G. W. Hart, A.D., was in the chair. The report of the proposed Conference of Friendly Societies at Wellington on Thursday next waa considered, and Bro. Mansfield deputed to represent the Lodge. Officers nominated for the ensuing term were:— District President, Bro. W. Ericksen; A.D., Bro. G. W. Hart; V.A., Bros. E. Wallis, P. Ashton, J. payfer, W. Toomath, and F. Roydhouse. Six: new proposals for membership were inade. Receipts for the evening amounted to £67. Yesterday, whilst the staff were engaged erecting a heavy telegraph post, by some means the foot of the post skidded and tell to the grou'nd,, narrowly missing one of the men. Fortunately the man had thejpresenc® of mind to jump clear of danger.
