"GRAFT" SENSATION.
MURDEROUS ASSAULT ON MR HENEY. Received November 18, 9 a.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 17. Mr Francis Heney, the District Attorney of San Francisco, who was murderously assaulted in court""by a saloon-keeper named Haas, while prosecuting in the case against Abe Ruef. charged with "graft," is recovering. Abe Reuf is a notorious lawyer, connected with the San Francisco municipal frauds. In March last it was cabled that the grand jury had returned no fewer than 65 indictments against Reuf, who was charged with being an intermediary in bribing the Board of Supervisors in the overhead trolley deal on behalf of the United Railroads, and also with other acts of corruption in conjunction with Eugene Schmitz, who was formerly Mayor of the city.
