Mrs Maria M. Pilcher, relict of the late Mr H. J. Pilcher, died at Karori on Monday in her 77th year. The death occurred at Greymouth last week of Mr John Patrick Griffen, father of the well-known boxers, Alfred and John Griffen. The Levin Borough Council has appointed Mr C. E. Shaw, of Temuka, gas engineer ojt of seventeen applications. Mrs Elizabeth Knox, an eld resident of Auckland, died en Tuesday tuorning, age.l 99. It is understool that the amount she has bequeathed to Auckland charities exceeds over £60,000. Miss Lily Lloyd, of Palmerston North, died at tne Wellington Hospital on Tuesday. The deceased was the eldest daughter of Mr Thomas Lloyd, ot Terrace End. Mr H. Richards, of the Masterton branch of the W.F.C.A., will succeed Mr Larsen, manager of the hardware department at the firm's Eketahuna branch. Mr Richards will leave for Eketahuna to-morrow. A Dunedin Press Atssociation telegram records the death of Canon Dodd, of St. Paul's, Dunedin, aged 74. Hi was formerly vicar at Balclutha and in Taieri. The deceased was occupied in the East Coast mission in 1881-83. At St. Colombo's Church, Ashhurst, on Tuesday, Mr H. 0. Goulter, second son of MrC. Coulter, Hawkesbury, Marlborough, was married to Miss G. M. Gudgeon, eldest daughter of the late Mr J. B. Gudgeon anl of Mrs Gudgeon, of Ashhurst. Miss Ivy Salvin, who sued P. P. Bigwood for breach of promise in Sydney a few weeks ago, has adopted a stage career, and -hasjoined Meynell and Gunn's "Belle of May fair" Company. She is playing Lady Mount Highsate in that musical comedy. At St. Mark's Church, Carterton, yesterday afternoon, Miss Winifred Myrtle Glial I is, daughter of Mr W. Challis, was married to Mr Herbeit Goodin, son of Mr Enoch Goodir, of Carterton. The Rev. R. Young, Vicar of St. Mark's, performed the marriage ceremony. The death occurred at Greytovvn on Wednesday of an old resident of the South Wairarapa in the person of Mr Hector McKenzie. . The deceased was a native of Loch Broom, Scotland, and resided twenty years in the Wairarapa. He was 76 years old at the time of his death.
