Towns, in an Australian built boat, and rowing 35 strokes to Barry's 32, dashed to the front and led by half a length at the half mile, a length at the mile, and three-quarters of a length at Hammersmith. Barry made a grand spurt and passed Towns at ChiswickChurch, He afterwards kept two lengths ahead, despite Towns' plucky spurt in the last furlong.
