INTER-TRIBAL FIGHTING

A PUNITIVE EXPEDITION. NUMBER OF NATIVES SHOT. Received October 13, 9 0 a.m. SYDNEY, October 13. Advices from the Caroline Islands show that the rative police despatched to Ponape, in the Carolines, returned ac'ter a fipht with the natives. A number of the latter were s^ot. The latest reports state that the fighting was confined to rival native tribes. The German Etst India Squadron has arrived at the islands, and peace is now assured. It is reported that the natives at Rock Islands, lelonging to the Neu Pom mem Group, for some unexplained reason massacred thirty of their womenfolk. A puniti«e expedition will be sent.
