Speculation is naturally rife in the lobbies of Parliament, as among friends and supporters" of candidates, as to the datie of the general election. The desire of the Premier to close the session this week has been made manifest. Observant politicians are agreed that it will be to the interest of the Government to get the general election over with all possible despatch. Assuming that Parliament,will close on Saturday next, there is no reason why the elections—including the second ballots —should not have passed into history in six weeks from that date.
