FRESH INSPECTION OF THE RACE ROUTES.

To-morrow mornir.g Dr. J. P. Frengley District Health Officer, accompanied by Mr G. Laing-Meason, engineer... for the Lansdowne and Opaki water .supply and irrigation schemes, will pay a visit to Lansdowne and Opaki in connection with the'scheme.-"ThR vis,it is the outcome of the opposition to the carrying out the proposed scheme by some residents of Lansdowne, and by the Health Department, on the grounds that the water supply will be contaminated in its course through the open races. The District Health Officer and Mr Laing-Meason will go over the proposed route of the water races, and will be pleased if any County Councillors and persons interested in the two schemes will accompany them over the ground. THE INITIAL LOAN PROCEEDINGS. THE COUNTY COUNCIL'S RESOLUTIONS. The "part the County Council has played in the matter of promoting the wishes of those desirous or Seeing Mr Laing-Meason's scheme carried out is embodied in a resolution passed at a meeting held on February 11th last. There were present at the meeting Cra. W. J. Welch (chairman), W. Harris, J. Miller, C. Kcbbell, A. Murray, and J. Morris. There were also present—Messrs P. L. Hollings, A. H. Wrightson, V. E. Donald, W. H. Cruickshank, and G. Lainof-Meason. The minutes of the meeting contain the two following paragraphs:— "Plans showing the boundaries of the water districts constituted in 1905 were laid before the Committee, and Messrs Meason and Marchant's 1 printed report of the schemes under ' discussion at that date was read. 1 ' 'After the questions had been fully discussed, the chairman (Cr Welch) moved, and Cr Kebbell seconded, that this Committee directs that polls of the ratepayers interested in both ! schemes be taken upon the question of raising loans.—Carried. Cr Harris dissenting."
