ADVERTISING AUSTRALIA.

WHAT THE FRANCO-BRITISH EXHIBITION HAS DONE.

THE NAVY QUESTION

Received Sepcember 15, 9.5S a.m. MELBOURNE, September 15. Sir J. H. Garruthers, ex-Premier of New South Wales, who has been in Great Britain'since his resignation through ill-health some months ago, returned by the steamer Miitiadas. During an interview, Sir J. H. Carruthera said he considered the Franco-British Exhibition had done more to advertise Australia than anything that had ever been previously attempted. His opinion is that the British Government is anxious for Australia to establish a navy of its own, and this is because it is anxious to have full and immediate control of its naval forces close to the British Islands.
