MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

•* • MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mas-tert-m School Committee was held last evening. There were present:— Messrs R. Brown (chairman), J. Carpenter, G. Townsend, W. C. Perry, H. H. Cork, H. O'Leary, A. W. Chapman, and Rev. J. N. Buttle. The Treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £7 12s 9d. The Secretary of the Education Board wrote stating thht the question of forming an assembly room at the High School by connecting two wings with a roof had been referred to the Board's Inspector of Works, The Chairman said that the Inspector had visited the school in connection with the matter, and the speaker understood that the Board's building committee were favourable to the work which was considered very necessary. Mr T. J. Thompson wrote to the committee that his children had been compelled to kneel during part of their school hours, indicating either a lack of seating accommodation or that the school was ovei'crowded. The visiting members were authorise! to look into the matter. •A, request from Mr E. Feist, on belli] fof the Presbyterian Bible Class Simmer School, for use of the High School during the summer, was reterred to the visiting members, for a conference with the headmaster. The headmaster reported as follows:—Attendance— Main School roll, 660; average attendance, 615; percentage, 93; Side School, 660 615—93; Secondary Classes, 72 69—96. There is no truant report, the attendance being highly satisfactory. The Inspectors paid their annual examination visit last week. A further visit will be paid in November and December next tor the sixth and secondary classes. I should be glad if the Committee will have an inspection made of a drain.which has become blocked.
