WELLINGTON SHEARERS' AWARD.
Elsewhere in this issue we publish a copy of the Wellington Shearers' Award. In connection with the dispute no fewer than 1.2G5 employers were cited, and, of course, the provisions of the award apply to all employers cited. An Arbitration Court awardjs a somewhat new experience tor sheep farmers, but if care is taken to comply with the terms of the award, and we have no doubt that it will be loyally observed by the great majority of both employers and employees, smooth working will ensue. A reasonable award really saves employers a £OoJ deal of trouble, and tends to lessen friction between employer and employed. The awarJ under notice appeals to one as being of a reasonable character, and it is so, we take it, because it "embodies the agreement of the parties." Shearers working in different parts of the Wellington Province will now work under uniform conditions, and it i» to be hoped that there will be a total absence of friction in the future.
