NORTH WAIRARAPA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Trustees of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society was held yesterday afternoon. There were present Messrs R. T. Holmes (chairman), Win. Morris and Mesdames Cairns and Keane. An application for assistance was received from a widow, hut was declined on the grounds that she had a grown-up family who were able to support her. A resident in Hastwell applied for assistance. The request was declined, as the applicant was not a resident of this district. Tha application was referred to the Mauriceville County Council. An application for rcliet was received from a woman with five children who had been deserted h.y her husband. It was decided to grant ten shillings per week in rations. The Salvation Army wrote agree- ""* ""Trig to take an old man who has hod a paralytic stroke, and for whose keap in a home in Christchurch the Benevolent Society were now paying, on receipt of a written guarantee that the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society would pay ten shillings per week for his maintenance, The pay s'leet, amounting to £49 j 6s 7d (ordinary expenses £23 15s ff 8d arid Renall-Solway Home £25 10s lid), was passed for payment, and the action of the Chairman and Secretary since last meeting was confirmed. The Chairman stated that Dr Valintine had called., on him with reference io the erection of a building -on the grounds where the RenallSolway Home stands, for cases not • suitable for the Hospital, and which could not at present be admitted to the Renall-Solway Home owing tD want of room and lack of accommodation for nurses. He expressed a ■desire to see this matter tnken in hand as soon as possible after the . Bill now before Parliament was passed. Dr Valintine visited the institution and expressed his satisfaction at the suitability of the building, its clean appearance, and at the . manner in which it was conducted.
