THE BOOT INDUSTRY.

The boot industry throughout the Dominion, at the present time, it is complained, suffers from a decided shortage of female hands. On the occasion of the last advance made in the wages given to female hands the wages were fixed at a standard above those given to tailoresses, with the object of attracting hands to the boot industry, but it did not attract them in the slightest. As to importing female labour from the Home country, that is not regarded by some employers as likely t) solve'the prevailing difficulty.
