LONDON MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, August Bth: I The mutton market is quiet, but rather steadier. River Plate mutton is in large supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale at 3d per lb. The following are the current quotations:—Canterbury mutton, 4d; North Island, 3§d per lb. The lamb market is st»ady, with a very good demand. New Zealand Canterbury lamb is quoted at s§d, other than Canterbury at 5Jd per lb. There is a better demand for beef, and the market is firmer. Hindquarters- are quoted at 4d, forequarters at 2jsd per lb. The butter market is quiet but firm. Choicest New Zealand brands are quoted at 116s, nominal; Danish, 1225; Siberian, 108s per cwt. There has been no alteration in the cheese market since last week. The hemp market is very dull. Stock held in London amounts to 228 tons. The following are the current quotations:—Good fair grade on spot, £2G; fair grade on spot, £22 10s; fair current Manila on spot, £22; j August to October shipments, guod fair grade, £25 10s; fair grade, £22 10s; fair current Manila, £2l 10s. Last week's output from Manila, 21,000 bales.
