WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The following is the President's .annual report, which will be presented at the annual meeting of members to be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August sth, in the ..Dominion Hall:—lt is gratifying to be able to record an addition to the already long list of successful years in the history of the Society, the chief contributing: agencies in this coniiection being the continued hearty support of the public and the very liberal programme for sports and •concert provided by your directors. As indicated in the President's report, •of 1907 your directors considered it advisable to transfer the annual gathering from the Masterton Park to the Agricultural Showgrounds. 'That their decision on such a vital question was in the best interests of the Society is borne cut by the fact that on the Showgrounds the gate receipts, sale of privileges, and increased grandstand receipts recor( 3ed by the Society. It is satisfactory, therefore, that the effort to ensure the comfort and convenience of your patrons was coincident with financial success. The attached statement shows that the Society maintains its strong financial position, as, without including outstanding subscriptions, assets are -well in advance of last year's figures. It' id hardly necessary to review in detail the statement presented, as it is so set out that it explains itself, the general, sport 3, concert av.a ingleside accounts being shown separately; this is a departure from the old order of things which I consider should be continued. Membership remains at practically the same levi 1 is at the end of last financial year, resignations balancing elections. Tnere are thirteen new members to be proposed at the annual meeting. Two of your oldest directors, Messrs E. E. • Chamberlain and A. McLeod, are at i present enjoying a visit to England. On March 21st Mr Chamberlain resigned his position as treasurer, and Mr G. R. Sykes was elected in his stead. Prior to their departure Messrs Chamberlain and McLeod were the recipients of presentations from members of the Society. Both gentlemen offer themselves for reelection as directors. In conclusion, I desire to tender my hearty thanks to directors and stewards fur their unfailing courtesy and assistance to me during my term of office, and trust that my successor will be accorded the same consideration. You will be called upon, in compliance with the Society's rules, to elect a president, two vice-presidents, treasurer, auditor and twenty four directors. Notice of motion. —(By Mr J. B. McKenzie.)—"That honorary life membership of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society be conferred tniVr E. E. Chamberlain in recognit;o i of .; his many years' services as treasurer and director."
