WITH THE WAIRARAPA TEAM,
(By Telegraph—Special Reporter). DUNEDIN, July 28. Commtnting on the WairarapaOtago match the "Otago Daily Times" says:—ln the first spell, or for the main part of it, the visitors made a decided weak stand. The defence at times, on the part of some of the Grsens, was very poor, and the knowledge of the game evinced was very limited. In the second spell, however, there was a most appreciable difference. The Greens opened with more dash, and surprised everyone by scoring a very fine try. Encouraged by their success in this re spect, they again livened up considerably, and soon had another very good try to their credit. Both tries were the outcome ot good play, and a keenness to seizo the opportunities that came their way. Otago were seldom in serious trouble, and the opposition disclosed but few weak spots in the constitution of the local team. Of the visiting backs, Duggan was safe at full-back, while Darvill and O'Leary were responsible for most of the work. The forwards were not a first-class pack, but Henderson and R. M'Kenzie played exceedingly good and fast games.
Jackett and M'Evedy, of the British team, purpose returning to New Zealand after the Australian tour, the former to take up a position offered him in the Tourist Department, and M'Evedy to settle and practise hia profession in the North Island. Arrangements are being made for a match to be played at Masterton, on August 12th or 13th, between the Red Star juniors (champions of Wairarapa) and the Tukapa juniors (champions of Taranaki). A meeting of W.F.O.A. football enthusiasts was held on Monday evening, when it was decided accept the challenge of the Welch Family for a match on Thursday, August 13th. It was decided to apply for the use of the Showgrounds for the match, and that the team play in black jerseys. Messrs Pragnell, Schubert and Hall were elected a committee to select the team, and make the necessary arrangements in connection with the Welch Family committee. Probably a small charge will be made at the gates, the proceeds to be in aid of the Hospital.
