WOOL SALES
BY TELEGRAPH —PIiESS ASSOCIATION. Received July 28, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, July 27. # Wool Crosshreds weaker, especially faulties Merinos very firm. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 25th, 1908: The mutton market is weak, on account of the absence of demand. Canterbury is in small supply, and quotations are nominal. Canterbury lamb is quoted at 4d, North Island at 3Jd, and River Plate at 3&d per lb. The lamb market is steady. Canterbury brands are quoted at sgd, and other than Canterbury at sgd per lb. The beef market is quiet, and demand is falling off. The butter market is very firm, with a good demand. The butter shipped by the s.s. Turakina arrived in good condition, and found a market at an average price of 116s per cwt. The cheese market la steady, but without animation. New Zealand white makes are quoted at 62s and coloured at 59s per cwt.
The hemp market is depressed. The following are the current quotations :--Gool fair grade, on spot £26; fair grade, on spot, £25; fair current Manila, on spot, £22 per ton, July to September shipment*) are quoted as follow :—Good fair grade, £25 10s; fair grade, £22 10s; fair current Manila, £2l 10s. The wool market is firm, with a hardening tendency. The hop market is dull, with very little business doing.
