The closing of the Lithgow works was the outcome of a ballot of the employees, who, by a considerable majority, decided against the proposed reduction in wages. The result will seriously affect the town of Lithgow.

The Lithgow ironworks were closed down on Thursday night, throwing 500 men idle.
