Y.M.C.A. v. W.F.C.A. A

A match between the Y.M.C.A. and W.F.C.A. A. was played atLansdowne yesterday, and a very willing game resulted. In the first spell Y.M.C.A. had somewhat the best of the play, keeping their opponents on the defensive rather more than they themselves were called upon to defend. No score was registered /in the first spell, although some exciting play was witnessed in both circles.

The second spell saw Y.M.C.A. open with a vigorous attack, but the defence of the ends was too good to permit of a score being made at that stage. Good individual play was witnessed for a time, when Schubert, with a fine run from about half-way, took the ball through half a dozen opponents and shot a well-earned goal. This put the blacks on their mettle, and they attacked with renewed vigour. Williams made several splendid runs, but was frustrated when within an ace of scoring. At last, however, he "bustled" the ball through a scrimmaging pack and scored a clever goal. From this out the blacks continued to attack, but without avail. Schubert again made a smart run down the field, 'almost to scoring point, without success. The game thus ended in a draw, each side scoring one goal. Mr S. Noble-Campbell was referee.

CARTERTON B v. W.F.C.A. B

The W.F.C.A. B team played Carterton B, at Carterton, yesterday afternoon. The teams were evenly matched, and the game, which was fast and interesting throughout, resulted in a draw, each team scoring three goals. For the first twenty minutes of the game the visitors had all the best of the play, and scored an easy goal. Carterton then rallied, and before haif-cime placed a goal to their credit. The second half was of a more even nature, both teams putting forth their best efforts to secura a victory. W.F.C.A. were in their opponents circle time after time, and made repeated efforts to score, but hesitation on the part of some players and wild hitting on the part of others, lost several good chances. Carterton also lost several opportunities of scoring, one shot at goal hitting the goal post and being "bustled" over the line outside the post. In this spell each team secured two goals. The visitors had somewhat the best of the game throughout, their forwards doing good work, but the backs, except the goalkeeper, where somewhat weak. The Carterton forwards, especially the two Dudsons, played well throughout, and Roydhouse saved them time and again by good hits. Dickson scored two goals for W.F.C.A. and Potter one. For Carterton, A. Dudson, L. Dudson and T. Taylor obtained goals. Mr f'V Rosson' was referee.

CARTERTON A v. KNOX

The Cartertpn A and Knox teams met at Carterton, yesterday. A fast game resulted in a win for the local men by 3 goals to nil. The local forwards played a fine game, especially their centre (Fisher). Loader, the Knox centre, was also conspicuous for his fine work. The Knox forwards played a hard game. The backs on both sides played* well. Carterton won the game largely through having better combination. Goals for Carterton were scored by W. Fisher (2) and R. Reid (1).
