MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mas"tevton County Council was held yesterday. There were present Crs W. J, Welch VV. Harris, J. Miller, Jno. Morris, J. Colqnhoun, A. Murray, R. P. Beetham and H. 0. '.Toogood. Mr C. J. Thrupp, County Ranker in "the Alfredton Riding, wrote stating that settlers were complaining about the want of proper accommodation for impounded stool?.--it was decided to instruct the ranger to impound no mora stock until a shed was elected at the Pound. The Acting-Under-st'cretrry of Justice wrote stating that the questions . asked by the Council regarding the approaching local option poll would :receive consid.'ration. W. Davidson, County Ranger at Masterton, wrote explaining the circumstances connected with the impounding of a cow from the banks of tne Waipoua river.—lt was decided to approve of the ranger's action. Mr J. D. Asbury wrote applying .for a transfer of his slaughtering to Mr VV. J. Blake, Alfredton. HKie application was granted. Bonstead wrote complainFinjfr of users of the Alfredton mads easing the springs of their convey- . ances with wood blocks when heavy loads were in transport.—lt was resolved to get the County solicitor's opinion whether such action was illegal. 'ihe Chief Engii.eerof Reads wrote .asking trie Cour.c.l t) furnish infor uiation respecting roads in the County fjr the purposes of a general return. Mr Walter Cameron wrote asking that a culvert on the Bi .'eford side of . hid wool road be renewed. — The matter was left to Cr Colquhoun and ' the Engineer to attend to. Mr J. J. Mead wrote stating that • owing to the delay in the acceptance of the tender two months from the end of June would be required to • complete the roadman's cottage at . Kebbell's. The Masttrton Acting-Town Clerk wrote stating that the work of repairing Nursery Road was postponed pending the result nf petition for severance of a portion of the Borough upon which this roau abuts. Mr D. M. Parsonson wrote requesting the Council to fence off the roadman's cottage sits at KebbellV.—lt was decided to instruct the Engineer • to erect the fence forthwith. Messrs H. J. and F. A. Jackson, ..J. €a ! mpbell and J. Pinfold wrote protesting against a traction engine • -drawing slabs along thy Keriwhakupapa Road, on account of tho bad -state of the road, and asking the •Council to refuse a permit to do so. —On the motion of the Chairman, it was decided to notify thut the Council would not permit such traffic to go •ion. The Acting-Town Clerk of the .-Borough forwarded a permit fir the construction ot outbuildings ac the County office. Mr B. Page wrote offering £2 per year tent for the Taueru feiry reserve.—lt was resolved to reply that the Council could not see its way to ...lease the reserve. Messrs Percy Bros, wrote offering the Council an acre of land at Te Ore Ore for a gravel pit for the sum of £so.—After some discussion, the • offer was accepted, "~ Messrs Bellshaw Bros wrote offering to accept 75 per cent, of the value of the work done in metalling . Uutewai Road.—After the riding representative had reported on the contract, the offer was accepted. It was resolved to pay is per day extra to the men engaged spreading . gra\el on the East Coast Road. Cr Toogood moved that £IOO be expended in widening the Blairlogie ! East Coast Road in dangerous nlaces. —The motion was carried. resolved to apply for a£ for £ subsidy on the additional £3OO being raised for metalling the East Coast Road, and to request Mr J. T. .M. Hornsby, M.P., to support the application.
