The funeral of Mr D. Patchett, who died on Sunday last, took place Pahiatua on Wednesday, the cortege being a large and representative one. The new Inspector of Stock for Masterton, Mr S. H. LJssher, has taken up his duties, Mr D. Elliot, relieving Inspector, having gone youth for a short holidayConstable Ste\eas, of Waipukurau, has been transferred to the Tinakori Road station, Wellington, and will be replaced by Constable Heffernan, of the Wellington force, and late of Masterton. Miss Jean Hnwison, of Perth, Scotland, the well-known Scottish entertainer and interpreter of Robert Burns and lan Maclaren, is at present in Masterton making arrangements for a recital which she intends to give in the Town Hall on June 16th. At Morison's Bush on Monday, a farewell social was tendered by the residents of the district to Mr 1. Ward and Miss Ward, who are leaving the district to take up their residence in Gishorne. During the evening Mr Ward was presented with a gel J watch chain and Miss Ward with a gold brooch. Mr D. Cuddie, Dairy Commissioner, is expected to return to the Dominion in time to be present at the Palmerston North Winter Show. Among other questions, which have occupied Mr Cuddie's special artentiun during his Home trip, has been the grading of cheese, in view of the proposed alteration in the present system. On Thursday night the death occurred of Lady M'Kenzie, relict of the late Sir John M'Kenzie, who was Minister for Lands in the Ballancs and Seddon Governments. Lady M'Kenzie died at h«r residence, "Heathfield," Shag Point, Palmerston South. She was'the daughter of Mr John Munro, a tenant farmer on the Novar Estate, Glenglass, Rosshire, Scotland, where she was born. She was married to the late Sir John M'Kenzij on 23rd May, 1860, and on the same day she left Scotland with her husband, en route to New Zealand. She leaves two sons mid three daughters, a fourth daughter having predeceased her, at the age of thirteen years. Mrs M. P. Cameron, of Wellington, Mrs Atkinson, of Palmerston North, and Miss Kate M'Kenzie, of Palmerston South, are the surviving daughters. The two sons, Mesors John Munro M'Kenzie and Duncan Alexander M'Kenzie, are proprietors of the Bushy Park Estate.
