INVERCARGILL SUPREME COURT.

INVERCARGILL, June 2. A remarkably short criminal sitting was concluded* this afternoon, when Murdoch McDonald, charged with breaking and entering the Golden Age Hotel at the Bluff, and stealing £lB 10s, and two flasks of whisky, was acquitted. The jury was unanimous on the 'first count, hut one juror was for conviction on the charge of theft of the whisky. The Judge pointed out that in the circumstances they had a right to give accused the benefit of the doubt, and after a few minutes' further retirement the jury found a verdict of "not guilty," on both counts.
