Results: — Borough Handicap.—Little Mary 1, Ballarat 2, Erl King 3. Scratched—Martello.' Won by a length-. Time, lmin 15sec. Wanagnai Steeplechase. Tilson 1, Kaipetipeti 2, Nadador 3. Scratched—Faro and Cloudy Morn. A good race between first and second horses. Only four horses finished. Fahey, the rider of Arahura, was seriously hurt in head when his mount fell, and eventually died. Time, 6min 4*see.' Electric Hack Handicap.—Penates 1, Advantage 2, < Hydraulic 3. Scratched—Miss Flirt. Won by a head. Time, lmin 3 2-ssec. May Hurdles.— Prospector 1, Immolation 2, Aeolus 3. All started. ' Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 18 2-ssec. l Kaif.oke Hack Hurdles.—-The Stake 1, Snip 2, Mount Cook 3. Scratched —Repulse, JToddy and Lingerer. Won easily by four bngths. Time, 3min 15sec. Connolly Handicap.-Daisy Paul 1, King Biily 2, White Lie 3. Scratched—Ballarat, Ikon and Carissima. Won by a clear length. Time, lmin 57sec. Puru Hack Flat.—Waikaraka 1, Wailetha 2, Tiptoe 3. Scartched— Carissima, Nicotine/ and Yosami. Won by a bare neck, two lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 44secs. The amount put through the totalisator was £9,474, as against £11,913 for the first day last year, a shortage of £2,439. Forty bookmakers plied their calling. Fahey's death was caused by Arahura crushing him. The horse struck the top of the hen-coop, and Fahey slipped out.of the saddle on to the woodwork. Arahura then turned a somersault and fell upon the jockey, fracturing his skull and injuring him internally.
