Scartched— Carissima, Nicotine/ and Yosami. Won by a bare neck, two lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 44secs. The amount put through the totalisator was £9,474, as against £11,913 for the first day last year, a shortage of £2,439. Forty bookmakers plied their calling. Fahey's death was caused by Arahura crushing him. The horse struck the top of the hen-coop, and Fahey slipped out.of the saddle on to the woodwork. Arahura then turned a somersault and fell upon the jockey, fracturing his skull and injuring him internally.
