CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on SaturJay last. Those present were Crs. A. J. Speedy, (chairman), Langdon, Ryder and Innea. Messrs Barton and Pickett attended and requested that the Council would proceed with the formation of the road down the Whakataki Valley. The chairman informed them that the Council would consider their request and would no doubt put the work in hand during the next few months. Mr JR. J. Barton also wrote on the subject of the road down the Whakataki Valley, also pointing out the necessity of some improvements being done to the road from the station to the beach. Mr Pownall wrote asking for tracings of the road from Whakataki to Castlepoint to accompany the memorial to the Governor in respect to the land taken for a road through the Native Reserves at Whakataki and Castlepoint. Mr W. G. Beard advised the sale by Messrs Maunsell of certain sections of land to Messrs', Dickens and Buick. Mr R. Langdon wrote asking if the Council had abandoned the proposal to acquire the gravel Reserve, and when he might expect to get paid for the small section of land on which the roadman's cottage stood. The Secretary to the Wairarapa District Hospital Board w/ote pointing out the increasing demands made upon Local Bodies for Hospital maintenance and charitable aid, and suggesting that a separate rate be raised, so that every ratepayer would see on his demand note the exact amount of his liability for the year towards these institutions. The District Road Engineer advised the way in which the road to Re we Rewe could be vested in the Council as requested by letters, which was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. Messrs Gawith and Logan, to obtain a section of five acres of land for County use under the provisions of j the Public Works Act, 1905. Mr Barton to be requested to undertake a resurvey of the road j down the Whakataki Valley, from j the gate at the lower end of the | gorge, to the crossing at the upper end of the formation in sections 317, and that an opinion be taken as to the position of the Counc'l in respect to moving fences from the old road anhd reinstating them. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £366 4s 3d, and accounts j were passed for payment amounting ! to £169 6s sd. I
