THE LATE MR G. G. STEAD.
CHRISTCHURCH, May I. The profound respect felt for the late Mr Geo. G. Stead by ail classes of the community was evinced by the large and representative attendance of citizens at his funeral, which took place this afternoon. There were present representatives of the many important commercial enterprises with which the late Mr Stead had been so intimately connected, members of the different sports bodies and clubs to which he belonged, representatives of the different local bodies, and other organisations with which he had been associated directly or indirectly, and a host of private friends from all parts of New Zealand. Upon and around the coffin were placed a multitude of beautiful wreaths and floral tributes, including several sent by Australian and New Zealand Jockey Cluos. Quite a number of people had assembled iirect at the cemetery, and there was a very large concourse of mourners at the graveside, where an impressive burial service was conducted.
