TRIBAL REVOLT IN INDIA.
SITUATION SERIOUS
HOLY WAR PROCLAIMED
CALCUTTA, April 24. The* Mohmands are becoming more aggressive.
Two brigades have been ordered to concentrate on the border under General Willcocks, and a third has been ordered to Peshawar as a reserve. General Willcocks, with 3,200 men and eighteen guns, holds a front covering sixteen miles from Michni to Abazai, with a strong central position at Shauakdar. The Mohmands cling to the hills, 'sniping when opportunity occurs. A holy war has been preached over the whole area between the Kunar and Panjkora rivers to Jandcl. Shells dispersed a large body of tribesmen which was advancing on Gazhisadar Lufi Mullah, with 3,000 men, has reached Gundabmulla. The British repulsed an attack on Adizar bridge. The Mohmands, while looting a village within the British border, were attacked and lost eleven men.

Reutar's Simla correspondent cables that the enemy, threatening to cut his communications, General Willcocks attacked with two columns, capturing the native sangars. The British casualties numbered sixty.
ARMS AND AMMUNITION OPENLY SOLD.
A BIG ENGAGEMENT

It is stated at Peshawar that arms and ammunition manufactured in Afghanistan have been openly sold at Jellahabad. Tribesmen bought quantities and joined the Mohmands. The enemy's supply of food comes largely from Afghan territory. The Ameer recently refused to permit Lufi Mullah to proclaim a holy war against the Indian Government. It is reported that Nasrulla Khan has ordered Sirtib Dakka to recall the Afghan soldiers who joined in the attack on Thursday night. The object of General Willcocks is to drive the enemy into the higher hills.
Major Anderson's brigade met the enemy near Shabkaden in a big engagement, and sustained severe losses.
