Mr Sydney Earee, well-known in local musical circles, has accepted the position of stage manager to the Fleming Comedy Company now playing at Christchurch. Miss J. Scott, who won .the ladies' championship at the University Tennis Tournament, held at Dunedin during Easter, is a sister of Miss T. Scott, 8.A., of the Carterton District High School staff. Rev. A. M. Johnson, M.A., late Vicar of St. Matthew's, Masterton, who has been selectsd to fill the vacancy at St. Mark's, Wellington, caused by the death of the Rev. 11. Coffey, was inducted yesterday by the Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt, commissary for the Bishop. The funeral of the(wife of Mr A. E. Remington, J.P., took place at Masterton yesterday afternoon. The cortege included prominent citizens and old settlers, the pall-bearers being Messrs A. Lewin, W. Fly, Hood and A. Weller. The Rev. Edwards, relieving Vicar of St. Matthews, officiated at the graveside. Messrs O. Ibbetson and Allsworthy, members of the Masterton Y.M.C. A., who are leaving Masterton permanently, were bidden farewell at the strangers' tea of the Association last evening. Mr W. Kemp, chairman, expressed the regret of the Association at the loss of two sucn valuable members, and wished them "God speed," and a successful future. Mr James Dawson, an early settler, died at his residence, Kuripuni, on Friday last. The deceased, who was 85 years of age, was a native of Aberdeen. He came to New Zealand in 1862, and for the past fifteen years had been a resident of Masterton. A widow and one son are left to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place to-day, leaving the residence! Queen Street South, at 2 o'clock.
