A FRONTIER FIGHT.

CABLE NEWS.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.

ZAKHA KM ELS . DEFEATED,

A BRITISH OFFICER KILLED,

Received February 24, 8.26 a.m. CALCUTTA, February 23.

Columns under Brigadier-Generals Anderson and Barratt attacked the Zakha Khels on Friday. The enemy were posted behind strong sangars on high hills around Halwa, seven miles from Chind. The positions were carried, and the towers below destroyed. Major Douglas Forbes-Sempill, of the Seaforth Highlanders, was killed. General Sir James Willcocks, in command of the expedition,'says that Major Forbes-Sempill was one of the best officers in the service. He was killed while gallantly leading one of His Majesty's finest battalions. Two Indian non - commissioned officers and eight Sepoys were wounded. They are doing well. General Willcocks attributes the smallness of the loss under mountain warfare conditions in part to the peace training of the troops. Brigadier-Genera' Barratt, by a frontal attack, seized the hills, while the Seaforth Highlanders entered the Bazar Valley.

Brigadier-General Anderson simultaneously marched by another valley, and debouched over the Khotal, delivering a flank attack. The enemy, being reinforced, clung near the flanks of the retiring Britishers, but made no impression.
