CENTURIES BEFORE THE RED MAN.

Mr Harlan Smith, the well-known American anthropologist, has returned to New York from Wyoming, where he has been conducting an archaeological research under the auspices of the American Museum of Natural History. He explored the fos3il valleys, where bones of antedeluvian monsters have been found, and there discovered evidences of the existence of several large villages, whose inhabitants must have lived many centuries before the American Indians. Burial mounds were examined, and great quantities of primitive implements, weapons, and domestic utensils were unearthed. Mr Smith also found inscriptions on rock in a r.tyle of writing hitherto unknown. Photographs of these were taken.
