INDUSTRIES THREATENED WITH STOPPAGE. WATER SUPPLY ENDANGERED. Received November 15, 10.42 a.m. SYDNEY, November 15. A number of steam colliers are laid up. Arrangements have been made to curtail the ferry service. Amongst largo industries threatened with stoppage if the strike continues are breweries. Shortage of coal threatens to endanger the water supply of the higher levels of city and suburbs. The Labour Council has adopted a resolution urging the Government to acquire the mines and supply all State requirements. There are nearly seventy vessels in Newcastle harbour waiting to coal. PRICE OF COAL IN MELBOURNE. ALL-ROUND FREIGHT ADVANCED. INTER-STATE STEAMERS TO BE LAID UP. Received November 15, 10.42 a.m. MELBOURNE, November 15. , The price of screened Newcastle coal is 35s per ton, with little inclination to sell, k further advance is expected. Local coal has advanced by 10s. Inter-State shipping companies have advanced by 10 per cent, all round freights—half-a-crown per ton to Sydney and Adelaide, and 5s to Brisbane and Fremantle. Arrangements are in progress for the laying up of a number of interState steamers.

A PROBABLE CONFERENCE. RUMOURS AS TO TERMS. Received November 15, 10.42 a.m. NEWCASTLE, November 15. The colliery proprietors decline to give any information regarding yesterday's meeting. It is understood that they decided to confer with the miners conditionally upon their returning to work and agreeing to give fourteen days' notice if it is subsequently decided to strike; also that an impartial tribunal might adjudicate on the dispute if the Miners' Federation put up a substantial bond as a guarantee that the miners would agree to the decision given. The chairman of the Proprietors' Association will interview Mr Wade to-day. The miners will also interview him. The Lambton pit has ceased woik. The effects of the strike are commencing to be felt in Sydney in earnest. The price of best coal (delivered) has advanced to £2 a ton; small is at 30s. The price of firewood also shows a strong advance. EFFECT UPON.ADELAIDE. Received November 15, 10.42 a.m. ADELAIDE, November 15. The shortage of coal is already felt. Prices have made a big jump.
