As a result of the coroner's inquest on the child of Lilian Fanny Jane Hobbs, the mother has been charged with child murder in that she had caused its death by lack of attention. The child was found dead in Fail's restaurant. Accused was committed for trial. Bail was allowed. A SUCCESSFUL COMPANY. DUNEDIN, October 30. The annual report of the Drapery Importing Company recommends the payment of 6 per cent, on preference shares for the half-year ended August, absorbing £3,749; payment of 6 per cent, per annum on ordinary shares, amounting to £6,432, carrying forward (less bonus 2J per cent, to shareholders 'on their purchases) £3,547. The nett profit for the year was £16,464. CONTEMPT OF COURT. NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 30. Henry Hoskin, defendant in a separation order case, to-day, was taken into custody for contempt of court, in persisting in insulting witnesses and counsel for the plaintiff and the bench. Mr Fitzherbert, S.M., described accused's conduct as the worst he had seen in a long experience, and sentenced accused to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. The S.M. remarked that he would have dealt with him more severely had accused not been half drunk, ■ui < hi TIMARU^SHOW. TIMARU, October 30. The forty-second show of the Timaru A. and P. Association was opened to-day, in beautiful weather, with a show of sheep and harness horses. English and Border Leicesters together accounted for 116 out of 271 entries in the principal sheep sections, and were declared to be as fine a lot as had ever been got together in New Zealand. All belonged to South Canterbury men. E. Kelland won both ram and ewe championships in English Leicesters. W. Grant's ram and G. Douthwaite's ewe won the championships in Border Leicesters, both with imported sheep. In inbred half breds J. Stringfellow's nineteen year flock beat C. H. Orbell's thirty years in all classes. There was good competition in fats. In horses the judging was confined to the harness classes, the prize winners being all local men.
