LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. ' The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, October 19th, 1907: _i The mutton market is weak, although there is a betterdemand, ln--duced by lower prices. Canterbury is quoted at 3fd and North Island at 3£d P er Ik* , - , * ii There is a good demand for all lamb, with no change in prices. The beef market is dull, and there are large supplies of American chilled beef. Hindquarters are quoted at 3§d, and forequarters at 2gd per lb. The butter market is strong. All stocks are idvancing, and there h a large demand for better grades. Ii is reported that the first shipment of New Zealand new season's make has been sold to arrive at 120s per cwt. Danish butter, on spot, is quoted at 1245, Siberian 108s, and Australian 117 a per cwt. There is a good demand for cheese; prices are unchanged since last week. • The hemp market is weaker, and prices slightly lower, besides being in rather an unsettled condition. Good fair grade, on spot, is quoted at £3O, fair grade, £2B 10s; fair current Manila, £3O. The latter is in large supply. October-December shipments are quoted at: Good fair, £29 10s; fair, £2B; fair current Manilla, £29 10s per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and offerines are very small. Quotation stands at 73» per cwt., and firm thereat. The wheat market is firm owing to reduced supplies. New Zealand longberried>n spot, is quoted at 41s Gd (nominal); and short-berried at 40s 6d per quarter of 4961b. There is an active dlfeand for oats, New Zealand sparrowbilla being quoted, ex granary, on SDOt, per quarter of 3841b, at 27s ti|, and Danish, per 3201b, at 2256d.,2K. New "Zealand beans, f.a.q., new crop, are quoted at 31a 6d per 5041b. The market is quiet but firm. The demand for partridge peas is weak and inactive, and they are quoted at 42s 6cl per 5041b, ex granary. ■jjt - ■ ~~
