WAIRARAPA YORKSHIRE SOCIETY.

The Wairarapa Yorkshire Societyheld a very pleasant gathering in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, last evening, when a series of lantern slides descriptive of Yorkshire scenes were shown by the Rev. J. H. Sykes, of Tinu!. Despite the unfavourable weather there was a large attendance. Mr E. H. Waddington, President of the Society, presided. Mr Sykes carefully explained each view, and dwelt on the historical importance of rrany towns and buildings in a manner that held the audience interested throughout. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the lecturer by acclamation. Sut x sequ3iitly the members of the Society entertained MrS\kes at supper at Etiples' Dining Rooms. Mr Waddington, in expressing the Society's thanks to Mr Sykes, said they were indebted to him for coming such a long distance, and going to so much trouble in providing an entertainment which every Yorkshireman must appreciate. The lecture, which was greatly enhanced by the views, was valuable in its reminiscences of Yorkshire, and made them feel proud of their native country. Rev. Sykes briefly replied. He assured them that it was a pleasure to him to assist the Society in any way. He hoped shortly to receive a number of new slides of Yorkshire views, which he would be pleased to show.
