Mr Curran, member for Jarrow, speaking at Shornabyontees, declared that if the railway companies persisted in ignoring the demands of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants he would block their Bills. DECENTRALISATION IN INDIA. Received October 8, 10.30 p.m. CALCUTTA, October 8. Sir Henry Primrose, recently appointed chairman of the Royal Commission to study the question of decentralisation in India, has withdrawn on the grounds of ill-health. Mr C. E. Hobhouse, Under-Secretary for India, succeeds him. THE CROPS IN INDIA. Received October 8, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, October 8. Reports from India show that after a dry hot September the situation is fair or good in Burma, Eastern Bengal, Assam, a portion of Bengal central provinces, and a portion of Bombay and Madras, but west of Bengal the craps are suffeting, while the harvest on the north-west frontier and the Umta provinces is a failure. Distress is likely to be widespread and necessitating exten-" sive relief measures. Indications point to only a quarter of the crops being gathered in Central India.
ENORMOUS COALFIELDS. Received October 8, S. 13 a.m. CAPETOWN, October 7. Enormous coalfields have been discovered at Knysna. FACTORY LABOUR IN INDIA. Received October 8, 10.30 p.m. CALCUTTA, Octobers. A commission has been appointed to consider the whole question of factory labour in India. ,
