CARTERTON.

♦ ■ (From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. The severe gale which raged on Saturday did great damage to fences in this district. A 200-gallon tank was blown from its stand and shelter trees were uprooted. An epidemic of influenza is visiting the farms in the district, and a number of milk suppliers are compelled to work short-handed. Alterations are to be made to the Clareville Public School. The Rev. W. J. Elliott preached a special service at the Methodist Church, last evening, on "The Great Misunderstood and His Dominion," to a very large congregation. Some very fine anthems were rendered by the choir during the evening. The annual meeting of the South Wairarapa Methodist Circuit is to be held at Greytown next week when some important business will be discussed.
