..e annual parade of sire horses," inder the auspices of the Wairarapa Pastoral and Agricultural Society, vas held on the Showgrounds, Car;erton, on Saturday afternoon. The weather" conditions were not favourible to a parade, and ran fell internittently during the afternoon. The jarade was a disappointing one and ;here was a very poor attendance Dwing to the lack of interest shown n the parade by settlers and horse)reeders, there is a probability of ;he Committee abandoning the parade is an annual event. All the horses :atalogued put in an appearance, the ;otal number being eleven, as cornered with eighteen last year. The ;ntries included three thoroughbreds, 'our draughts, two carriage and ;rotting stallions, one Irish hunter, ind one pony. The particulars relating to the different horses were announced very capably by Mr H. A. Bunny, one of the Parade Committee. Mr H. S. Moss, the. energetic secretary, had all arrangements complete for the carrying out of the pai'ade.
THOROUGHBREDS. BORIS is new to this district, and is the property of Mr W. Corlett, Carterton. Breeders were favourably impressed with the appearance of the thoroughbred. He is a dark chestnut and a son of Stepniak. Shepherdess (dam of Boris) is a daughter of Fitzdonovan, by Donovan (who won £55,154 in stakes) from Alone, by Hermit. Fitzdonovan, a winner in Australia, was purchased by the Indian Government at a big figure. Fitzdonovan was at Kirkham when a colt, and he got two good performers in MacDonovan and Donovan. Merv (full brother to Fitzdonovan) last season in New South Wales sired six winners of thirty races, ot the value of £854. At two, three, and fours years of age Boris was a consistent and successful performer both over short and long distances. As a two-year-old he won the Northern Champagne Stakes, and the next day carried 9st 101b to victory in the Ellerslie Handicap. In the Hawke's Bay Stakes he put down J Machine Gun, Golden Lily, and | others. At three years of age he was successful in the Great Northern Guineas. As a four year old he won the Wairarapa Cup, carrying 7st 121b, in 2min i)sec. Next day he won the Racing Club Handicap, one mile and a distance, carrying 9st, in 2min. Boris is a son of Stepniak, a most successful sire, whose progeny have won £58,525 in stakes during the past eight seasons. Such a wellperformed and highly-bred sire as Boris will no doubt bt well patronised by Wairarapa owners. SARACEN, as usual; was looking in the best of form. He is a scientifically-bred horse by St. George—Fair Nell. He won 22 of the principal New Zealand events while on the turf, and each year his stock han added to the fame of his stud career. In 1905 Saracen was second on the list of winning New Zealand sires, and in 1906 he was fourth with 23 wins, representing £2,245, while in the season just ended on July 31st his stock won £3,000. Amongst his racing stock the following are well-known:—Antigone, Gladsmuir, Cinque, Hatley, Mataari, Playfair, Sardonyx, Sarilla, Jolly Roger, Silken Rein, Matakokiri, Sharkeyn. Saracen is as sound as ever, and he is confidently recommended as a sire by the best judges of horse flesh in New Zealand. Full particulars can be obtained from the owner, Mr W. C. Tully, Papawai, Greytown North. PORIRUA is a beautifully-forrned chestnut, standing about 16.1, by Seaton Dela val (imp.)—Waitemata. Porirua won more in stakes than any two-year -old of his year, thereby proving his worth on the racing track. He is to be at the service of breeders in this district during the coming season. Mr C. McCullough is the owner, and he will be pleased to supply full particulars to anyone on application.
CARRIAGE SIRES. KING GEORGE is a rich golden bay, with black points, 16 hands 2 inches, has grand bone and substance, and is by Electioneer—Vim (late Zealot). He is possessed of a good temper and sound constitution. On the track he has proved himself one of the best trotters every foaled in the colonies. As a sire King George has shown himself able to transmit his excellence to his progeny, as Marian, Miss Wilson and Peacock, his only representatives on the race track, are all good winners, while as carriage horses his stock command high prices. The owner-in-charge, Mr W. H. Atkins, will be pleased to supply particulars on application. The only other e v itry was Boston (Mr S. Liddington, Taratahi).
DRAUGHTS. BRILLIANT BOY Was in excellent condition, and attracted a great deal of attention. He is a brown colt, and is by the farfamed Clydesdale, The MackenzieKate. Brilliant Boy was bred by Mr W. F. Buckley, of Hoon Hay, Christchurch, and shows excellent quality combined with great power. He has splendid flat bone, and an abundance of silky hair of the class now so much sought for in draught horses. Brilliant Boy was brought into Wairarapa last year by Mr R. Falloon, of Masterton. It is to the credit of Mr Falloon and his brother, Mr J. Falloon, that they have for the past eighteen jears- run Clydesdale and other sires of repute in the Wairarapa. Their enterprise has certainly been appreciated by the breeders of this district. Other horses shown in this class were Ranton Robin (Mr J. H. August, Dalefield), Crown Reef fMr Thos. Rosyth, Gladstone), and The Saxon Messrs J. and N. Cadwallader).
700 guineas. He has never beaten in the show-ring, been shown all over Ireland analrl the metropolitan shows in Australia and New Zealand. He is the sire of Shamrock, the noted carriage stallion, of Dunedin, who has secured over thirty prizes and has never been beaten. Full particulars can be obtained from the owner, Mr C. MeCuliough, Masterton.
I PONIES. Reform, the property of Mr B. Phelps, Carterton, was the onlyrepresentative in this class. THE STUD. The champion draught stall ion 7 Commonwealth, by Challenger—Belle of the Isles, the property of Mr J. Falloon, Pahiatua, will be at the service of Wairarapa breeders during the present season. Common wealthshows all the favourite qualities of a Clydesdale, and has already proved; a success at the stud and in the show ring. He is a beautiful dark bay of immense substance and quality, standing over 17 hands, with great broad flat bone and has splendid action. This horse should have a good season assured.
