MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS ACT.

WELLINGTON, September 5

I Mr T. K. Sidey asked the Premier in the House of Representatives, whether it is intended this session to amend the Municipal Corporations Act,in order to give effect to any of the recommendations of the Conference of the New Zealand Municipal Association; and, if so whether it is intended to give effect to the following resqlutions passed at the last Conference?—-"That the Municipal Corporations Act, 1900, be amended so that power be granted to local authorities to charge and recover half-cost of kerbing and channelling where there has been none before; also., to charge and recover one-half cost of permanent work where temporary ktrbing, etc., has been previously* put in, and half-cost paid by property-owners abutting, payments previously made to be credited." ,- "It is not possible to say at present/' replied the Premier, "whether there will be any amendment of the Municipal Corporations Act this session."
