CARTERTON.

(From Oar Own Correspondent.)

The lady members of the Carterton Methodist Mutual Improvement Society were entertained at a social, in the Methodist Schoolroom on Wednesday evening, by the male members of the Society. Readings and recitations were contributed by Rev. Elliott, Messrs R. Tucker, H. Andrews and Miss G. Fensbam, and a humorous dialogue, entitled, "Going to the Dentist's," was staged. The characters were taken by Mr W. -Stevens and Masters A. Martin and F. Butler. Miss A. Andrews, on behalf of the ladies of the Society, thanked the gentlemen members for the entertainment provided. Supper was afterwards served by the gentlemen, and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close. A purebred black Orpington cockerel has been imported by Mr W. Stevens, of Carterton.
