Wednesday. Lambs have now begun to make their appearance on most of the stations around here. The weather up till now has been anything but favourable, for there is reported to be great mortality among the ewe flocks through lambing trouble. One settler states that he has already * Jost 2 per cent. It is a great pity ,Mw&hat a remedy canno* be found for trouble. '' mfr ~ The long-looked-for supper-room and stage for the Bideford Hall has at last been made a start with, and will be opened on the 30th inst. by a concert and dance, which should prove a great success. All the local singers will take part, and also several singers from Masterton. The •school children's debite should prove very interesting, as Mr Bennet hast been coaching them well. A rather sharp earthquake was felt Tiere on Sunday morning about 7.30 o'clock. A large arsa of scrub is at present being felled on the Bowlands Estate, one of the biggest gangs of men seen in this district since the days of the big bush contracts being employed on the work. Mr and Mrs Churchouse gave a most enjoyable progressive euchre party at their residence on Saturday evening. Mr£F. J. Miller and Miss G. Miller carried off t,'.e first prizes. Mr H. A. Miller won the consolation prize. Mr and Mrs W. M. Laing have just returned from a.very pleasant holiday in New Plymouth. Mr Laing states that during their stay of a month they only experienced three wet days.
