WELLINGTON WOOL AND SKIN SALES.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows: —At Friday's sale we offered a fair sized catalogue of skins and hides and a small lot of wool and tallow. To-day's cables from London indicate a drop of from Jd in fine crossbred and merino, |d in medium, and to |d in coarse shortwoolled sheepskins. In spite of this advice values in our sales to-day were only about Jd below last sales rates. Hides: The Australian markets are still very weak and local values are about on a par of last sales. Wool: Only a small lot of crutchings offered to-day; prices were about on a par with late rates. We quote:— Wool: Crutchings, clean and light, from 6d to 6£d; medium, s£dtosfd; seedy and inferior, 3d to sd. Sheekspins: Cross- \ bred pelts, sound, from 6d to 7d; half- \ bred, skins, BJd to 9d; crossbred skins, from 8d to 8f d; lambskins, 8d . to B£d; green skins, 6d to 6£d; dead j skins, 5s 6d to 6s lid. Hides: Ox, j light, 4£d to sd; cow, 4|d to 4§d; ' damaged, 3d to 4£d; calf, sound, 6ftd to 7Jd; damaged, 3£d to s£d. Tallow: In tins, 21s to 25s 3d per cwt. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report:—We offered 40 bales wool, 2,000 skins, 550 hides and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. There was a good attendance of buyers, and good competition at last sale prices. We quote: —Wool: Coarse crossbred, 7d to 8d; rough and inferior, 6d to 7d; pieces and bellies, 4£d to locks, 3d to 4d; c-utchings, good, s§d to 6£d; crutchings, seedy, 4d to s§d. Sking: Advices to-day of the London sales show a fall of £d on coarse skins. Notwithstanding this, prices for shipping lines ruled firm at last sale rate. Green skins were some-! wh>" + easier. We quote: —Merinos, 7d to ijflP*r§ne crossbreds, 81d to 9£d; coarse-crossbreds, 8d to B|d; dead skins, 6£d to 7Jd; dead hoggets, 6£d ! to7d; dry pelts, 5d to 6Ad; lamb; skins, 7£d to 8d; green skins, 5s to j 7s 6d. Tallow: Firm. Parcels in I shipping order, £26 10s; tins, £l7 j to £23; rough fat, £l3. Horsehair:, Is to Is 4d per lb.. Horns, 9s to 25s j 9d per 100. Cowtails: Is to Is 8d i per dozen. Hides: Easier all round. We quote:—Ox hides, extra heavy, j 5d to s£d; ox hides, 601b to 701b, 5d ! to s§d; ox hides, 501b to 591b, 4£d to \ sd; cow hides, 4d to 4gd; calf skins, i best, 6d to7d; ialf skins, cut and j slippy, 3d to od; hides, cut and | slipDy, 3Jd to 4d; stag hides, 3d to \ 3Jd*: bull hides, 2*d to 3|d. The next sale will be held on Friday, August 30th, 1907. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—There was fair competition from the usual attendance of buyers. Catalogues comprised mostly crutchings, station skins, and butchers' lines of hides. The market for wool was about on a par with last sale rates, but buyers "Were not keen on any inferior and heavy conditioned lots. Skins met with a good market, and appear to be now on the upward grade. Hides were hard to quit at good prices, the market being still very low, and there does not seem any prospect of its getting firmer. We quote as follows:—Wool Crutchings, bright, 6d to 61d; medium, 5Jd to s|d; heavy and inferior, 4|d to 5Jd. Skins —Halfbred, 9|d to 9Jd; fine cross- ; breds, sound pelts, B£d to Bgd; medium crossbreds, 8d to B|d; coarse crossbred, 7£d to Sd; pelts, 6d to 6gd; crossbrpd, dead and broken, from 5Jd to 6£d; salted, 4s 2d to 5s ! lOd; butchers', green, light, 5s 8d to j 6s 2d. Hides—Ox: Heavy and me- j dium weights, 5Jd to sid: light, 4|d ; to sd. Cows: Medium and light j weights, 4Jd to 4gd: yearlings, 4|d , to 4gd. Tallow—ln casks, none i offering; tins, 23s per cwt. |
