CHINA'S INDEPENDENCE RECOGNISED. Received August 15, 10.39 p.m. ST. PETERSBURG, August 15. The Russo-Japanese Convention has been published. It maintains the status quo nf the respective territories of each nation with the principle of equal opportunity. It also recognises the independence ar.d territorial integrity of China and equal opportunity as regards commerce and industry for all nations in China. Both countries are pledged to uphold the maintenance of the status quo in China and the principle of equality with all peaceable means at their disposal.
