MAURICEVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) For Friday, the 16th instant, a Igrpnh social gathering in aid of the Church funds, has been organised. As, besides our local talent, some well-known Masterton amateurs are to contribute good items to the programme, it is to be hoped that the evening's entertainment will turn out a financial success. I regret to learn that Mrs Ross, the popular hostess of the Mauriceville Hotel, last week met with a serious accident by a severe fall which resulted in a nervous shock. I am glad, however, to state t.hat Mrs Ross is rapidly recovering from her injury. The resignation of Mr Ward, head teacher of the Mauriceville West school, will leave a vacancy in that school, for which the Board have already invited applications. It is rumoured that some of the teachers of neighbouring schools are likely to be applicants for the position, which is good enough to satisfy a man whose ambition does not urge him. to seek higher promotion and who has still some years of vigour in him.
